Tristan Jacobs / Performing arts / Grahamstown, South Africa
Slash

Masidlale Productions is a registered closed-corporation. It is the brainchild of Tristan Jacobs, a Rhodes University Postgraduate drama student. MASIDLALE means “let us play” in isiXhosa.
The company uses imagination as a means of reaching a collective sense of ‘humanity’, to rekindle the flames of a suffocating society. The performances defy norms and restrictions, by exemplifying an attitude of re-invention and the awareness of cohesion, not in terms of a diluted, globalised community but of the inspired individual within the universal. The theatrical influences of Le Coq, Boal, Brook and their proteges all feature in the company's ethos.
Physical, spiritual storytelling relevant to the South African psyche, MASIDLALE emphasises the usefulness of diverse and necessary ‘playfulness’ in a nation that is a rainbow kaleidoscope of communities. Let us play!
