Steve Bandoma was born in 1981 in Kinshasa. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Academies des Beaux-Arts, he moved to South Africa in 2005.
Bandoma has participated in numerous groups exhibitions both locally and internationally. He had his first solo exhibition at Alliance Française of Cape Town in 2008 and won several arts awards including the Art Buzz 2009 Book Collection with “Honourable Mention” in USA. Recently Bandoma was laureate for residency programme hosted by Prohelvetia in Zurich as well as for “Visa pour la création” Afrique et Caraïbes en créations hosted by Culturesfrance at Cité Internationale des Arts in partnership with Mains D’œuvres in 2009, currently Bandoma has been selected for the Space, Currencies in Contemporary African Art, with Zwelethu Mthethwa, Willem Boshoff, Barthelemy Toguo, Berni Searle, Godfried Donkor, David Koloane, and Jo Ractliffe, curated by Thembinkosi Goniwe and Melissa Mboweni and Khwezi Gule, Bassam el Baroni, Elvira Dyangane Osse and Raphael Chikukwa as consultant curators While contributors to the catalogue include Simon Njami, Meskerem Assegued, Abebe Zegeye, and Sean O’Toole, Museum Africa, Johannesburg.
