The Durban International Film Festival's 31st edition will take place from 22 July to 1 August 2010, presenting over 200 screenings of films from around the world, with a focus on films from South Africa and Africa.

Screenings will take place throughout Durban including township areas where cinemas are non-existent.

The festival offers an extensive seminar and workshop component featuring local and international filmmakers, including the Talent Campus Durban programme which brings together about 40 young filmmakers from around the African continent.

2010 also sees the inaugural Durban FilmMart, a joint project between the DIFF and the Durban Film Office aimed at facilitating financing and co-production opportunities for African film projects.

The Durban International Film Festival is organised by the Centre For Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal) with principal support by the National Film and Video Foundation, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, HIVOS, City of Durban, German Embassy, Goethe-Institut, Industrial Development Corporation and a range of other partners.

How to reach the event

The DIFF's film screenings are in over 24 venues across Durban and the surrounds. These cinema's and other facilities are in places that communities can easily reach using local transport. Public transport can be an issue in the evenings when taxi and private cars are required.

The workshops, seminars and market events take place during the day and all at the Royal Hotel making transport easier.

Places recommanded for accomodations

We tend to use the Royal Hotel www.theroyal.co.za for our festival although there are a range of other fine hotels, B&B and hostels in Durban.
